Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF) announced that Luhrs City Center at 11 West Jefferson Street, has renewed its lease with Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, LLC (Hagens Berman). The preeminent national class-action law firm extended its lease for 8,037 square feet at the historic, 14-story art deco masterpiece in the heart of downtown Phoenix. NGKF’s Executive Managing Director Jerry Jacobs and Managing Director Michael Crystal represented Luhrs and assisted both sides in the transaction.
“Hagens Berman’s continued confidence in Luhrs City Center is extremely satisfying,” remarked Amit Bhagat, Director of Operations, Hansji Corporation. “They committed early to the revitalization in downtown, entering into a lease in 2009, which was before a $10 million capital improvement project was completed. Luhrs City Center offers art deco and Spanish colonial timelessness with state-of-the-art technology in two of the most iconic, historic buildings in Phoenix – it’s an ideal situation for both Luhrs and the firm.”
Adjacent to the Municipal Courts Complex and CityScape Phoenix, surrounded by Light Rail, and close to professional sports and entertainment venues, office space at Luhrs City Center is highly desirable. With the proposed 19-story dual brand Marriott in progress at the City Center complex, interest has only increased.
Located at the northwest corner of Madison Street and Central Avenue, the new $80 million high-rise hotel joining the property will feature 320 rooms as well as ground-floor retail.
“We love the downtown environment, our elevation and two-story space, and that it is in a one-of-a-kind project,” added Rob Carey, managing partner of Hagens Berman’s Phoenix office. “It’s hard to find what we have in Phoenix—red-brick walls and steel trusses on a 20’ ceiling, and a mezzanine. The space is ideal for our uses: social events, mock trials, office meetings, collaboration among attorneys. Everyone here loves the space and location, and for a law firm, there is no better place to be.” Hagens Berman was followed by Burns Barton, a boutique employment law firm, which created its own two-story space in the Luhrs Tower right next door.
NGKF provides agency leasing services to The Luhrs Building and Luhr’s City Center.
