Dec. 16, 2013— SkySong, The ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center will kick off the holiday season on a high note. Literally.
Construction of SkySong 3, the third commercial office building at the project, will reach a significant milestone in the next few days as it will be “topped out,” meaning the structural steel in the construction building will reach the building’s final height. SkySong 3 will be approximately 62 feet high at its parapet, and approximately 76 feet high at the top of the mechanical elements.
The SkySong 3 construction team will celebrate the milestone at a “Topping Out Party,” to be held at 11:30 a.m. December 19 on the construction site near the main construction trailer. Members of the media are invited to attend, and are asked to check in at the DPR Construction trailer for safety reasons.
The construction of SkySong 3 has gone extremely smoothly during the fall months, and the topping out comes after just 3 1/2 months of construction. The building is scheduled to open in the summer of 2014.
“We are very pleased with the progress of construction on SkySong 3 and are excited about how well it is coming together,” said Sharon Harper, President & CEO of Plaza Companies, the master developer of the project. “DPR Construction and its subcontractors have done an excellent job of meeting the construction schedule and creating a building that will have an iconic presence in the community.”
Ryan Young, Project Manager with DPR Construction said that the construction process has been smooth to date thanks to careful planning and generally good construction conditions.
“SkySong 3 is going to be an exceptional building, one that we are very proud to be involved with,” Young said. “Our team is working diligently to make sure the building is ready for its opening in a few months and will be a tremendous home for the companies and organizations that will locate there.”
The 145,000 square foot building will be located along SkySong Boulevard, just southwest of the project’s iconic shade structure. Arizona State University will lease 1 ½ floors of the four-story building, and current SkySong tenant WebFilings will be expanding their presence in the project by taking a full floor in SkySong 3. Plaza Companies will be taking office space on the first floor. SkySong 3 has approximately 50,000 square feet available and Lee and Associates, SkySong’s commercial real estate broker, is working with prospective companies and tenants.
